In a large saucepan over medium heat, heat milk and butter until hot. Whisk in flour, paprika, salt, and pepper, and cook 4 to 5 minutes or until sauce thickens, stirring frequently. Remove from heat, stir in green beans, mushrooms, and minced onion. Pour green bean mixture into an 8-inch-square baking dish and sprinkle with walnuts.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until heated through.
Better-for-You Tip: Nothing is more of a staple on a holiday table than the classic green bean casserole. And we feel there is no better way to say “I love you” to your family and friends than serving up their favorite, yet with a lighter twist. Here we replaced the canned soup with an easy homemade cream sauce that helps us cut back on our sodium and fat, then we topped it with protein-packed walnuts rather than the traditional fried onions. The results are nothing but rave- worthy, so make sure you add this to your holiday line-up.
