Paint Pour Letters

Level of difficulty:  Beginner

Use a fun paint pouring technique to cover wood letters in this colorful craft! Push pins on the back of each letter allow for the word to be displayed on a cork board. You can hang other works of art around your unique masterpiece!

What You'll Need:

Let's Do This!

Step 1:

  1. Pour the contents of one bottle of deco podge into a jar that has a lid.
  2. Fill the empty deco podge bottle with water until it’s about 1/3 full.
  3. Pour the water into the jar containing the deco podge.
  4. Put the lid on the jar and shake well to mix the contents.

Step 2:

  1. Squeeze about 3 tablespoons of each paint color into individual cups.
  2. Remove the lid from the jar and pour a small amount of the deco podge-water mixture into each cup
  3. Stir each cup until the paint and deco podge-water mixture is well blended.
  4. The paint mix should have the consistency of honey. You can add more of the deco podge-water mixture to the paint to reach the desired consistency, if needed.

Step 3:

  1. Create a “dirty pour”: In a clean, empty cup, pour your paint colors one on top of the other. You can repeat layering the colors until you use up all the paint.

Step 4:

  1. Hot glue push pins onto the backs of the wood letters.
  2. The pins will be sticking up.

Step 5:

  1. Flip the letters over and push the pins into a piece of cardboard.
  2. Pour the cup of mixed paints over the letters to cover them. Tip: As the different colors pour out of the cup, go over the letters multiple times to make unique patterns.

Step 6:

  1. Pick up the cardboard base and tilt it slightly to help the paint flow over the letters.
  2. If the paint doesn’t completely run over the sides of the letters, you can use a paint brush dipped in the runoff paint below to fill in any gaps.
