    Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate

Joint pain can be caused by all sorts of things — like fracturing a bone, hurting the tissues around your joint, or damaging the cartilage inside your joint. But did you know there are three simple steps that may help with joint pain relieve or even prevention? Try these tips from the MOTRIN® brand to help keep your joints healthy and working for you.

    • During the first 48 hours of pain, R-I-C-E (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate).
      • Rest the joint, and keep your weight off of it
      • Ice, not heat, the joint to ease immediate swelling and reduce inflammation
      • Compress the joint, wear an elasticized sport bandage
      • Elevate it, raise any joint pain above your heart, especially when sleeping
    • After the first 48 hours (roughly 2 days), exercise what you can. Knee injury? Work out your upper body. Sprained ankle? Try a low-impact exercise, like the elliptical. But make sure to check with your doctor before starting or changing a workout plan.
    • Consistently change up your movements, take breaks, and switch up any normal repetitive tasks or routines to prevent any future arthritis.

Make sure you consult with your doctor before starting or changing a workout plan. Find more tips to help joint pain relief from the MOTRIN® brand.
