Even though pets have a furry coat, they can still feel the drop in temperature like we do. In fact, frigid temperatures can become downright dangerous to your dog or cat.

Keep your pet warm and cozy all winter long with these simple tips:

• Keep your pet inside. Don't leave Fluffy or Fido outdoors for an extended amount of time during the cold weather. While pets still need outdoor exercise in the winter, it's safer to take your furry friend on supervised walks. 
• Bundle up. When you do venture outside for walks, bundle up your pet in a pet sweater or coat to keep her warm. While some pets aren't as susceptible to the cold, such as huskies and malamutes, short-haired dogs and most cats need some extra protection. 
• Watch out for ice. When walking near ice or snow, be extra careful your pet doesn't slip. Do not let your dog or cat run across a frozen pond or lake, either. The ice may be too thin, causing your pet to fall into the frigid water.
• Towel-dry when you come back in. If your pet gets wet in the rain or snow while outdoors, dry her off with a towel as soon as you both come back inside. Make sure to pay special attention to her delicate paws. 
•  Make a pet bed extra cozy with blankets. If your home is extra drafty, a regular old pet bed won't cut it during the winter months. Tuck blankets around her bed so she will stay toasty. 
• Provide extra water. During the chilly months, your pet is actually more at risk for dehydration. Keep her water bowl filled to the brim with fresh water. 
• Give her a holiday treat. Nothing warms your pet's heart more than extra attention from you. So, use the holidays as an excuse to do something special for your pet. Give her a belly rub, a new toy or even a tasty treat. 

Don't be afraid of a winter wonderland this year. Take some extra precautions to keep your pet warm, and you'll both be happy!
