7 Tips for Safe & Contactless Trick-or-Treating

The year is flying by faster than a witch on a broomstick. That means Halloween is just around the corner. Whether you’re heading out in the neighborhood or keeping it close to home, make trick-or-treating fun and safe this year with these seven helpful tips.

Tip 1: Stay with Your Group

If you go out, keep all your ghouls and goblins together in one group. Make sure you’ve got your fully cellphone fully charged and handy. You want to be sure you can easily get in touch with other adults in the group and those at home manning the trick-or-treat station.

Tip 2: Be Visible At Night

Add reflective tape or accessories to costumes & trick-or-treat bags. This makes it easier for drivers to see your trick-or-treaters and helps you stick with your Halloween crew.

Tip 3: Pick the Safest Route

When planning your trick-or-treat route, be sure to stick to well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk when possible. It’s easy to get excited about getting to the house that’s giving away full-size Snicker bars, so remind your crew to always look both ways before crossing the street.

Tip 4: Mask Up and Make it Fashion

We’re all wearing masks to protect each other, so why not make your mask part of this year’s costume? DG has non-medical face masks, coverings, gaiters and everything you need to bedazzle, paint and sticker your way into a whole lotta look.

Tip 5: Keep Sanitizer Handy

We’ve all heard it a million times by now, but it bears repeating: Sanitize, sanitize, sanitize. Especially on this high-touch holiday. Get a big bottle to fill small, individual-sized bottles that can be clipped to treat bag handles so that kids always have sanitizer close at hand.

Tip 6: Contactless Trick-or-Treating

If you want to go all the way hands-off this Halloween, create an outdoor sanitizing station.

  • Set out a small table with santizer
  • Make it festive with fun with décor from DG
  •  Add individual treat bags in a bowl for easy grab-and-go pickup
  • Leave a note on your front door for families to take a bag
  • Leave a Bluetooth speaker to play some spooky music
  • Turn your front porch light off once your bowl is empty

Tip 7: Celebrate Halloween at Home

Who says you have to go out on Halloween? You can keep it creepy at home with these activities and crafts.

  • Trick-or-treat from room to room
  • Host a small but spooky gathering
  • Make a fun candy craft
  • Decorate trick-or-treat bags
