Candle Lantern

Level of difficulty:  Beginner

Make a trendy decorative lantern using photo frames! This gorgeous, farmhouse-inspired piece is easy to create. Place a candle or a light inside, and it will beautifully illuminate any space in your home!

What You'll Need:

Let's Do This!

Step 1:

  1. Remove the glass and backing from the four 5" x 7" frames.
  2. Remove the glass and backing from the two 4" x 6" frames.

Step 2:

  1. Carefully break apart the two 4" x 6" frames. You will need the four longer 6" sides for the next steps. Remove the metal connectors with pliers.
  2. Use white spray paint to completely cover the four 5" x 7" frames, the four 6" pieces, and a shower curtain ring. Let dry. instruction

Step 3:

  1. Print the template. Lay glass panel from one of the 5" x 7" frames on top of the template and adhere gold washi tape where indicated. Repeat on another 5" x 7" glass panel.
  2. Repeat 3A on the other two 5" x 7" glass panels using silver washi tape. You should now have two glass panels taped with gold and two taped with silver.
  3. Add a dab of hot glue to the bottom and top of each frame where the glass will be inserted. Set the glass back in each of the four frames, tape side up.

Step 4:

  1. Glue two 5" x 7" frames together to create an “L” shape. The taped side should be facing in. See photo for placement. Repeat with the other two frames to create another “L.”
  2. Glue the two “L” sides together to create the rectangular lantern base. See diagram for placement.
  3. Glue two of the 6" pieces together at a 90-degree angle, as shown. Once that sets up, glue it to the top of the lantern base to start the peak.
  4. Glue the other two 6" pieces to the top of the lantern base, one on each side of the main peak.

Step 5:

  1. Snip the lock tab off the plastic shower curtain ring. Pull apart the opening of the ring to slide it onto the peak of the lantern, as shown. The ring will pinch shut around the wood and hold itself in place. Note: Do not hang lantern.
