How We SERVE OTHERS in the Military Community

In addition to Dollar General’s monthly military discount, the Company supports, recognizes and serves our nation’s military through several initiatives including hiring veterans, through our SERVE military employee resource group and by supporting organizations that benefit our military and veteran community. Learn more about these efforts below:

SERVE Employee Resource Group

Dollar General’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) provide information and education that help the Company foster a more diverse and inclusive work environment. These groups focus on opportunities to satisfy customer needs and provide a stronger tie to the communities in which we live and serve.

Dollar General’s SERVE ERG stands for Service-Minded Employees Reaching Veterans Everywhere and is dedicated to celebrating and supporting active-duty military, National Guard and Reserve members, veterans and their families through networking, education and community outreach.

At DG, SERVE members participate in a number of events and activities to support veterans, including Memorial Day flag placement in veteran cemeteries, Wreaths Across America and angel tree donations benefiting veterans. Dollar General’s SERVE ERG also proudly supports military families, helping them thrive in the communities they have worked to protect. SERVE contributes household supplies, water, snacks, gift cards and product coupons to military families through the USO’s Fort Campbell and Nashville locations. Additionally, SERVE seeks to recognize and celebrate DG employees who are veterans with special employee name tags, challenge coin presentations at leadership events and more.

Paychecks for Patriots: Dollar General, in partnership with state agencies that support service members’ transition to civilian life through meaningful employment opportunities, is proud to participate by assisting veterans and their families in finding purposeful careers. Paychecks for Patriots matches veterans and their families with employers, like Dollar General, who value skills, knowledge and attributes attained from military service.

United Through Reading: The Dollar General Literacy Foundation partners with United Through Reading to provide reading and recording libraries to 150 United States military bases. They ship around the globe so the men and women in the Armed Forces can record themselves reading a story to their loved ones because families should not be missed because a loved one is away on military service. The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has supported United Through Reading for approximately 25 years, contributing more than $600,000.
