It’s hard to believe, but winter break is almost here. That means kids of all ages will be home from school and at loose ends. We’ve got some fun ideas on how to create some holiday memories – and just maybe keep everybody out of your hair.
1: A Good Old-Fashioned Family Game Night
Put the away the phones and get out the classics. Gather everybody for a night of board games, jigsaw puzzles, card games and coloring books. Apples to Apples is a game everyone loves and you can pick it up at DG. You can also create your own fun group games like charades or celebrity.
2: Put On a Family Movie Night
This is one of the easiest and most relaxing family activities—and a great way to put all your holiday candy to good use. Just fill a couple of bowls with candy and some popcorn and grab your favorite sodas. Make sure you’ve got a couple of snuggly blankets. Then, grab your favorite holiday movie and the folks you love and settle in for a fun night.
3: Get Cooking and Crafting
The holidays are all about spending time together and making memories. Baking and crafting are great ways to bring everyone together. So gather the whole gang to whip up a batch of your favorite cookies. Or sit down with a fun DIY craft. Check out DG Easy Meals and DG Crafts for more projects and ideas.

4: Elf Mates Scavenger Hunt
Elf Mates are the fun new characters from the folks who created Elf On The Shelf. For a fun holiday twist on the classic scavenger hunt, have different members of the family hide your Elf Mates and create hints on where to find them.
5: Christmas Camping at Home
Kids love special spaces of their own, so create some quick holiday magic by setting up a pillow and blanket fort next to the Christmas tree. Your crew will love it for playing, reading and maybe even trying to stay up and catch a glimpse of Santa. Or set up a tent in the backyard so kids can watch for flying reindeer.
6: S’mores & Cocoa Night
While you’re keeping an eye out for Rudolph, keep your strength up with some ooey gooey s’mores. Whether you’re outside at the bonfire or inside at the fireplace, just grab some marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate bars and you’re in business. And don’t forget the hot cocoa.
7: Girls’ Night for Girls of All Ages
We’re all missing the salon these days, so have the girls over for an at-home nail night. Or a whip up a DIY spa night with fun masks, scented candles and a fun craft. For little girls, keep the fun going with a slumber party. Or if you’re hanging with the big girls, be sure to grab a bottle or two of wine.
8: Tree Decorating Party
Turn decorating the tree into a family affair. Let everyone pick out a special ornament at DG. While you’re there, grab a Bluetooth speaker. When you get home, crank up the Christmas music, serve up some hot cocoa and trim the tree to your heart’s content.
9: PJ Fashion Show
Grab some fun holiday jammies from DG, mix up some hot chocolate and invite friends over to strut the catwalk in your best festive PJs. Create fun awards for things like best runway walk and cutest PJs with a small goodie for each winner
