DIY Ice Cream Costume

Level of difficulty:  Beginner

This Halloween costume really is oh-so-sweet! Transform a plain T-shirt and headband into a cute costume, complete with dripping chocolate, colorful sprinkles, and a cherry on top!

What You'll Need:

Let's Do This!

Step 1: Prepare the Template

  1. Lay a T-shirt onto cardboard or newspaper and trace along the top and arms of the T-shirt.
  2. Cut out the T-shirt shape from the cardstock or newspaper.

Step 2: Create the Chocolate Drips

  1. Draw the chocolate drips on the template with a black marker using the illustration as a guide for placement. Tip: Sketch the drips on the template with a pencil first.
  2. Place the template inside the T-shirt. You will be able to see the marker lines through the T-shirt material.

Step 3: Paint

  1. Paint the chocolate drips with brown paint. Let dry. Tip: Add a second coat if desired and let dry.

Step 4: Create the Sprinkles

  1. Cut ten 1 5/8" by 5/8" pieces of felt from assorted colors to create the sprinkles. Round the corners of the pieces with scissors.
  2. Position the sprinkles onto the painted chocolate drips and hot glue them into place.

Step 5: Create the Cherry Topper

  1. Using a paint brush, liberally coat the foam ball with tacky glue.
  2. Wrap two layers of red tissue paper around the foam ball, pressing into the wet glue to hold it in place.
  3. Cut off the extra tissue paper at the top and press the cut ends into the wet glue. Let dry.
  4. Using a paint brush, apply a coating of tacky glue over the red foam ball and let dry. This will create a sheen on the cherry.

Step 6:

  1. Cut a 7" piece from a wire hanger.
  2. Bend the wire piece into a slight “J” shape. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to bend the curved end so the raw edge is not sticking out.
  3. Paint the stem brown. Let dry.

Step 7:

  1. Stick the straight end of the wire stem into the cherry.
  2. Hot glue the bottom of the cherry to the headband.

Step 8:

  1. Cut a leaf shape from green felt.
  2. Hot glue the leaf onto the tip of the curved end of the cherry stem.
